The My Choice Adoption Process


All services are free and confidential

When you call us at the number listed above, we will ask you some basic information about your situation and answer any questions you may have about our services.

Our birthparent counselor will then set up an appointment to meet you at your home, at our office, or at any other location convenient to you if you choose. At that appointment we will talk to you about your options and answer any questions you might have. We will continue to meet with you to discuss options for as long as you need. You also have the right to refuse counseling and this will not prevent you from making an adoption plan. My Choice can still help you with your planning process and connect you with pre-screened adoptive families that fit what you are looking for.

Although My Choice is a Maine based agency, we can help you no matter where you reside in the United States. We can provide supportive phone counseling and adoptive family choices, while connecting you with legal assistance and in person counseling in your home state should you desire. In any case, a trained counselor from our agency can help you plan your adoption.

We will give you profiles of prospective families to view, and you will be able to choose the family that you think will be best for your child. We will support you as you meet this family, and help you decide the kind of contact you would like with this family through the years. If you already have found a family, My Choice can still help you and your chosen family with counseling and connect you with an adoption attorney to complete your legal work.

During your pregnancy, My Choice can assist you with pregnancy related expenses such as housing, food, clothing and transportation. We will work closely with you to come up with a financial plan to best support you through this difficult time in your life.

We will help you create a hospital plan, and your birthparent counselor can be present in the hospital as a support person or a labor coach. You can decide the kind of involvement you would like from the adoptive family while you are in the hospital.

We will help you work with the birthfather and anyone else in the extended birth family to create the best plan for your child. We are committed to involving any support person in your life that you choose to involve in your adoption planning process.

 

 

We will make sure that you understand all legal proceedings, and can accompany you to court. We will provide an adoption attorney to take care of all legal paperwork and to represent you.

We will provide counseling and support after the birth for as long as necessary at no charge to you.

We are available to assist with ongoing visits with your child and to help in the exchange of pictures and letters.
