Amy, Rob and Abby

Hello
It is with great respect that we sit down to write this letter. We are humbled by the weight of your decision and hope that you find comfort and peace in the choices ahead, whatever your decision may be. We are deeply honored to be considered as parents for your child, and admire the great love you are showing in creating an adoption plan.
Our names are Amy and Rob and we have a wonderful daughter (my stepdaughter), Abby, who is almost ten years old. Rob and I have been together for seven years and married for close to four years. We have a solid and happy marriage based on love, respect, trust, and friendship. The decision to grow our family was made early on, however, after a disappointing three and a half years of trying and infertility treatments we were not able to conceive a baby. Supporting each other through the high and low points has certainly brought us closer together and made our relationship stronger. Not willing to give up on our desire to raise more children together, we decided to adopt a child. Rob, Abby and I are excited about bringing new life into our family.
Amy’s Thoughts on Rob
Thinking of Rob makes me smile…What initially attracted me to him (and still does) was how he interacted with his daughter. He is a phenomenal father! Kindness, thoughtfulness, playfulness, and humor are only a few of his virtues. He is a warm and loving man who stays active playing with Abby, working in the yard, golfing, kayaking, hiking, and playing basketball. He plays baseball on a men’s summer league and has coached Abby’s softball teams for the past four years. He also enjoys relaxing with a good book (in the summer time it is not uncommon to find him in the hammock on our back porch) and watching the Red Sox on T.V.
Rob works as a sales executive and has been with the company for eighteen years. We are fortunate in that he works out of our home, and therefore has the flexibility to take Abby to school in the morning, pick her up from school in the afternoon, and help her with her homework.
Rob’s Thoughts on Amy
Years ago, when Abby was in daycare, she had the most caring (and beautiful) teacher I ever met. Her name was Amy and after considerable effort she finally noticed me and eventually became my wife and the true lifeblood of our family.
Amy teaches 3rd grade and was her school’s choice for “2006 Teacher of the Year.” It was no surprise to anyone who knows her. Her love of teaching and helping young lives to be the best they can be spills over into our everyday lives at home. Abby simply adores her—as do I.
Amy enjoys gardening, relaxing at the beach or our lake cottage, walking Sibley, reading and spending time with our large extended family. In addition to being the perfect step-mom for Abby, she’s also a doting “Auntie” - always there for her nieces and nephews.
Daughter
Our daughter, Abby, is 10 years old. She will enter the 5th grade in the fall. Abby enjoys playing with her “babies”, computer games, riding her bike, participating in a variety of team sports including basketball, soccer and softball, and swimming at the lake. Her favorite pastime though is spending time with her friends.
Abby’s been looking forward to having a little brother or sister for some time now. Her warm heart and kind soul will make for the perfect “big sister” to any child who enters our home.
