Amy, Rob and Abby: Chosen
Pets
We thought our dog warranted her own page, too, as she is truly a part of our family! It’s corny, I know, but even Abby has said she can’t imagine our family without Sibley. Sibley was rescued from our local Humane Society. She tugged on our heartstrings the moment we looked into her big brown eyes. Uncertain of her history, we were told she’d been abandoned, we were cautious of how she would interact with Abby. But our concerns were soon laid to rest when we saw the special bond grow between the two. Now Sibley accompanies Abby to school each morning, sitting next to her in the car, and is there to greet her when she comes home.
Our Favorite Things
As a family we enjoy playing games together, going for family walks and bike rides, gardening, and exploring nature. Our favorite place to go during the summer and fall is our family camp. It’s located on a small lake and we try to get up there for two weeks during summer vacation from school, and also for long weekends when we can. While we’re there we enjoy swimming, kayaking, boating, playing volleyball , campfires, and of course, eating s’mores! All of our family members gather there every Fourth of July for a day full of food and festivities.
Camping is another activity we enjoy. We like to coordinate camping trips with Rob’s parents and his brother and his family. We also like to go to the beach where Abby is sure to find interesting treasures there to add to her collections.
We love to read! We’ve read to Abby since she was very young, and while she still likes to be read to, she also reads for pleasure on her own.
Extended Family

Both Rob and I are very close to our families. We are fortunate to have parents and siblings living nearby. We love to gather together for all occasions- birthdays, holidays, and just-because days. My sister and brother-in-law have four children ranging from age two to eleven. Rob’s brother and sister-in-law have two boys who are thirteen and fourteen. We see both families often. The doting grandparents are very involved in their grandchildren’s lives, going to their school and sporting events whenever possible.
House
We have lived in our community for seven years. It’s not far from where we were born and in Rob’s case, raised. I came from a military family, so while I was born in this area, I moved around the country while growing up. It is a great location because we have the seacoast in one direction and the mountains in the other direction. We are also only a train ride away from Boston, where we occasionally go to take in the sights of the big city.
We have put a lot of time and consideration into making our house a warm and comfortable home. Our home is a three bedroom colonial in a safe, quiet neighborhood. We have a big, grassy yard with a large play structure where Abby and neighborhood kids like to play. Our neighbors are friendly and there are plenty of kids to play with.
Thoughts
Rob and I believe that children learn by example. Just as we expect Abby to be kind and respectful toward others, we also live by these values and model them for her. We have raised Abby to be a thoughtful, caring, confident, and responsible person and we plan to do the same with any children who enter our family.
We also value education and play a supportive role in ensuring Abby’s academic success. We make learning enjoyable by finding fun ways to practice and apply skills. Both Rob and I loved school when we were growing up, and hope to instill this passion for knowledge into Abby and future children.
Rob and I both feel that the child we adopt should know who and where they came from. A child needs to know their history, and we are open to discussing ways of keeping communication open regarding the health and well-being of your child.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about us.
